Water Ambassadors

Access to safe drinking water remains a global challenge affecting 1 in 4 people worldwide. To address this, the partnership between TAU and IITM University, trains urban students across Chennai to monitor drinking water quality in their communities.

All around Chennai, students monitor several hundreds of households using a custom made survey, low-cost but reliable water testing kits, using mobile sensor application which provides with feedback based on collected data. Experience shows that students were able to effectively monitor water quality and give customized feedback. The goal is to create an experimental course and train 100 students, hand individuals the tools and framework to track their local water quality as they navigate complex daily water management decisions, improving their quality of life. Funding support is sought to continue to hone this model and expand to additional communities in India.
