Migration in the Field
All students of the M.A. in Migration Studies enroll in the Migration and Civil Society workshop. Through this course students are placed at internships based upon their academic and professional interests, prior experience in the field, and relevant language and technical skills. Students may choose to work with a specific population; asylum seekers and refugees, migrant workers, children of immigrants, Olim (new Israeli immigrants), etc. Students may also focus on the intersection of migration and a given topic area:
- Migration and education;
- Migration and health;
- Migration and hi-tech;
- Migration and human rights;
- Migration and integration;
- Migration and labor;
- Migration and law;
- Migration and LGBTQ rights;
- Migration and social work;
- Migration and sustainability;
- Migration and tourism; and
- Migration and urban development
The workshop takes place during the first and second semester of studies. While a list of projects suitable for the internship will be introduced at the beginning of the first semester, some students choose to begin volunteering prior to starting the degree program in order to gain a deeper experience. Internships expose students to work in the field of migration in Tel Aviv, in other localities in Israel, and at the national and international levels.
