BIOGRAPHY

פרופסור (אמריטוס) עקיבא כהן נענה בשנת 1995 לפניית אוניברסיטת תל אביב להיות המייסד של החוג לתקשורת באוניברסיטה. הוא עמד בראש החוג בין השנים 1996-2001

ופרש לגמלאות ב-2012.

פרופסור כהן הוא סיים תואר ראשון בסוציולוגיה ופסיכולוגיה באוניברסיטה העברית בשנת 1966, תואר שני בתקשורת ב-Michigan State University ב-1991

ותואר שלישי באותה אוניברסיטה בשנת 1973.

בין השנים 1973-1996 היה חבר סגל במחלקה לתקשורת ועיתונאות באוניברסיטה העברית, בה שימש כראש החוג וגם כראש המכון לקומוניקציה ע"ש משפחת סמארט.

לאחר פרישתו לגמלאות מאוניברסיטת תל אביב שימש במשך שלוש שנים כראש החוג לתקשורת וראש רשות המחקר של המכללה האקדמית עמק יזרעאל. 

תחומי המחקר שלו הם חדשות טלוויזיה; תקשורת ניידת; וצילומי עיתונות איקוניים וזיכרון קולקטיבי.

פרופסור כהן הוא נשיא לשעבר של ה-International Communication Association וכן נבחר כ-Fellow של האגודה. 

 

 

Akiba Cohen (B.A., Psychology and Sociology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 1966; M.A., Communication, Michigan State University, 1991; Ph.D., Michigan State University, 1973).

Professor Cohen founded the Department of Communication at Tel Aviv University and served as its first chair 1996 to 2001. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 2012.

Previous to that he was on the faculty of the Department of Communication and Journalism at the Hebrew University (19973-1995) where he served as Director of the Smart Family Foundation Communication Institute (1986-1990) and chair of the Department (1990-1993).

After retiring from Tel Aviv University was chair of the Department of Communication and as Head of the Research Authority at the Max Stern Academic College of Emek Yezreel (2012-2015).

Professor Cohen is a past president of the International Communication Association and an elected Fellow of the Association.

He was a visiting professor at the following institutions: Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania; College of Communication, National Chengchi University, Taipei; School for Communication, Information and Library Science, Rutgers University; Graduate School of Journalism, Columbia University; College of Journalism, University of Maryland; School of International Service, American University; ZUMA (Zentrum für Umfragen und Analysen), Mannheim; Department of Speech Communication, University of Minnesota; Department of Communication, Michigan State University.
