Climate, food and culture with Michal Levit and Dr' Miri Lavi-Neeman

What can a humble plant teach us about identity, culture, and global trends?
In a recent episode of Galei Tzahal’s “Kabbalat Shabbat”, we were proud to feature Michal Levit, a graduate of our MA in Social and Policy Aspects of Climate Change, alongside Miri Lavi-Neeman, one of our program’s lecturers.
The conversation explored the fascinating story of Hubeza (mallow) in Israeli culture. From its symbolic role in the early years of the state, through decades of silence, to its surprising revival since the year 2000, this journey reflects much more than culinary preferences. It mirrors global movements toward local identity, authenticity, and sustainability.
Our program is all about connecting research to real-world challenges. Food is not just nourishment, it is a lens through which we understand society, politics, and the environment.
