Founded in 1971 in memory of David Horowitz, former Governor of the Bank of Israel and architect of Israel’s plan for financial assistance to developing nations, The David Horowitz Research Institute on Society and Economy encourages research on issues relating to social and economic development and inequality.

The Horowitz Institute awards two David Horowitz Doctoral Fellowships each year to young scholars writing dissertations in the Social Sciences at Tel Aviv University.  The competition for the fellowships is announced in the fall semester of each year and applications are accepted in April-May.

The Horowitz Institute also encourages and supports academic conferences and workshops dealing with a broad spectrum of social inequalities in Israeli society.
