The ultimate goal in establishing the Center for the Study of Conflicts and their Resolution (CSCR) at the Gershon H. Gordon Faculty of Social Sciences is to provide a functional and dynamic structure that studies various aspects of international conflicts and approaches to their resolution.
It aims to serve as a platform for the regular exchange of ideas and opinions between scholars specializing in the area and to provide new insights and research possibilities for TAU students.
Our first goal is to bring together distinguished scholars at public conferences held at TAU and offer workshops for students. Academic research will eventually lead to policy recommendations, colloquia, and publications and will enable scholars from various institutions to share the results of their ongoing research.
The CSCR will be dedicated to, first, understanding the geo-political and socio-psychological dynamics of conflicts, what are the reasons for intractability, and the processes that eventually led to their resolution; and second, developing interventions and practical knowledge that have the potential to nudge societies immersed in conflict to a more peaceful trajectory.
Indeed, in recent years, there has been an exponential increase of interest in exploring evidence-based applications of social scientific knowledge in the field of peace and security that can promote international conflict resolution. This includes empirical concerns about how the implementation of program designs might effectively exit war, change the mindsets and behaviors of leaders and the populace, and introduce sustainable mechanisms to deal with the behavioral barriers and the socio-psychological hurdles that peace endeavors face across territories and time. Besides, social psychology research will touch upon transformative justice, environmental politics, media influence, educational and religious controversies, negotiation approaches, and other topics.
Our inaugural conference titled “Transformative Justice” was held on February 15th, 2024.
