The Center for the Study of the United States in Partnership with the Fulbright Program at Tel Aviv University invites
applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship for 2020-21 (to begin Fall 2020). Applicants may come from
any discipline in the humanities or social sciences that addresses American politics, society, economics and culture.
Eligible candidates may specialize in either contemporary or historic aspects of these questions. This includes
comparative or transnational projects that have a strong focus on the United States.

  • Fellowship Amount: $40,000 (equivalent in NIS).
  • Candidates must be U.S. citizens and hold a Ph.D. from a recognized institution.
  • No more than five years may have passed from the time the Ph.D. was approved and the beginning of the fellowship period. Preference will be given to candidates who have not received their degree from TAU. Candidates with permanent positions at colleges or universities are not eligible.
  • While in residence, the fellow will be expected to devote their full time to research and take part in the activities of the Center. Supplementary funding from other sources may be allowed, pending a formal request and review by our board.

Applicants Must Submit:

  • Documentation attesting to a doctorate degree, or certification of the submission date of their dissertation.
  • Documentary proof of U.S. citizenship.
  • Three letters of recommendation. Preferably, at least one recommender should not belong to the academic institution where the applicant was a doctoral student. These letters should be sent directly by their authors to: uscenter@tauex.tau.ac.il
  • Summary of the doctoral dissertation (or most recent book) and a brief description of the research plan (up to two pages each).
  • CV, including a list of publications (if applicable).

The Center for the Study of the United States in Partnership with the Fulbright Program at Tel Aviv University invites applications for a new research fellowship for 2019-20. Applicants may come from any discipline in the humanities or social sciences that deals with American politics, society, economics and culture. Eligible candidates may specialize in either contemporary or historic aspects. This includes comparative or transnational projects that have a strong focus on the United States.


Tel Aviv University is Israel’s largest academic institution and an internationally renowned center for innovative and groundbreaking research. The newly founded Center for the Study of the United States is the only scholarly center in Israel devoted  exclusively to deepening our knowledge of the United States and is home to a diverse and interdisciplinary group of scholars from the humanities and social sciences whose research and teaching touches on the United States.

• Grant Amount: $40,000

Postdoctoral fellowship with the University of Southern California (USC) 

American Jewry and its contribution to American society (January-June 2020)

The Center for the Studies of the United States in Partnership with the Fulbright Program at Tel Aviv University offers a new postdoctoral fellowship in partnership with the Casden Institute at the University of Southern California (USC) for the first half of 2020. The scholarship requires a lengthy stay at the Casden Institute. The appointment period will begin in January 2020 and end in June 2020.

 

In order to better understand the contribution of American Jewry to the state of California in particular and to American pluralism in general, the scholarship aims to advance original research on American Jewry and its impact on American society. Researchers interested in exploring, whether broadly or comparatively, the influence of American Jews on various issues in society, politics, general government, economics, history, law, gender, public policy, communication and culture (including literature and cinema) ) Americans of all ages are invited to apply.

 

Criteria for application: Doctoral degree starting in 2014.

Filing documents:

An English research proposal (3 pages maximum) detailing the research objectives, importance, methodology, and how staying at the Casdan Institute will contribute to its advancement (for example: Are there any relevant archives or researchers?)
CV and list of publications (if any) in English (3 pages maximum)
Three letters of recommendation in English
Doctoral Certificate Approval (for Graduates: PhD Doctoral Approval)
